10. Tag Rundreise – Südinsel
January 25th, 2010 by Tom
This was a hard day. We got up at 5.30am to reach our coach to Doubtful Sound right in time. The way to the sound was escorted by a nice sunrise, where rays blast over the surounding hills. First we went to Lake Wanapouri, where we went aboard of an small catamaran. It took us round about a half hour to reach the other end of this lake. At the foot of a hydro power station.
There we entered another bus to finally go to the Doubtfull Sound, where we get aboard of an other, bigger catamaran.
Actually we’re lucky guys, because the wheather yesterday and today were the best days since weeks in Queenstown and neighborhood. Unfortunately on good wheather days no animals will be visible onto these tours.
No penguins, no seals, no Keas. But however, there is a plenty of beautiful rural landscape, with blue (really blue) lakes and green rain forrest. Lots of nature, as far as the eye can reach. We took nearly 250 pictures and are sure that many of them will be double and triple.
Unbelievable, this evening we had the chance to dance tango argentino onto the Queenstown waterfront, where a German(!) street musician was playing an accordion. Nice tango music and a romantic rest of sunset, over the lake, into the background. After a few minutes we got applause.
Tomorrow we heading to Wanaka and further to Nelson, over Franz-Josef-Glacier.
